Social Impact
Here at LUNÄSHA, we believe real beauty starts from within! That starts by giving back to our communities, we work directly with women in remote regions of Guyana who produce this oil, with no middle man, to cut down on cost and to ensure a high quality product; while also guaranteeing the women we purchase from receive the highest possible profit for their product, in order to give them personal economic freedom.
Why This Matters:
Statically, Guyana was reported as having the second highest teenage pregnancy rate in the Western Hemisphere according to the World Bank collection of development indicators. Over 21.9% of these women become teenage mothers before they graduate high school, due to the lack of both tangible educational resources as well as vocational opportunities.
By purchasing from LUNÄSHA we can assist in breaking/preventing the cycle of abject poverty within these underprivileged communities, while still allowing the society to keep/preserve their native culture. A portion from each purchase goes to help in assisting a young girls pursuit for education, along with providing wages and supporting women owned enterprises. Each bottle creates an opportunity for growth that would be mutually beneficial for both the individual and the community, collectively.
This is a small example of how abject poverty works: Being born without many options and usually in a large family; education is then placed on the back burner where many times the older children, especially young girls, are asked to stay home to take care of their younger siblings while their parents are working to make a living. Many of these girls are only given the chance for remedial education, which can affect a young girls life in a slew of different ways including, lack of information and options available and the ability to be gainfully employed, thus affecting their self esteem and in more severe situations can lead to a financial dependency within a relationship which can in turn open the window up for domestic abuse. By giving these girls the opportunity to pursue higher education, we can help to assist in breaking this onerous cycle.
